Ont. Reg. 429/07 came into effect January 1/12.

The Accessibility Standard for Customer Service applies to all organizations (public, private and non-profit) that provide goods or services either directly to the public or to other organizations in Ontario and that have one or more employees in Ontario. This includes manufacturers, wholesalers, retail stores, theatres, restaurants, as well as other businesses and professional services, which are under Ontario’s Provincial Legislation.

The employee count has to include all full-time, regular and/or seasonal part-time, and contract employees.

In order to achieve compliance, it is estimated that an organization will require approximately 40 plus hours of work. That would involve the review of the Act, its Regulations and research available guidelines, in order to develop the required documentation and process.
